CONSERVATION MOVE? THE BODY SHOP, the famously eco-friendly cosmetics retailer, announced on May 12 that co-founder Anita Roddick will step aside as chief executive and join her husband as co-chair. Roddick, 55, one of Britain's best-known and most outspoken businesswomen, will be replaced July 14 by Patrick Gournay, a Groupe Danone executive. Body Shop is also launching a joint venture to run the U.S. business with director Adrian Bellamy. The changes are aimed at reviving sales in the U.S., where the company lost $8.3 million in 1997.
