Pentium-powered laptops are becoming much more affordable. The Latitude XPi series from Dell Computer (800 433-6649) is a good example. Base prices range from $2,999 for a 75-megahertz unit with a 10.4-inch passive-matrix display to $4,499 for a 90-Mhz active-matrix version. Standard features for all models, which weigh in at just over six pounds, include 8 megabytes of memory, 440 MB hard drives, and lithium-ion batteries. While lacking multimedia features such as CD-ROM drives, the bright displays and good keyboards help make the Latitude XPis a joy to travel with.
