All-in-one "works" programs, which offer a cheaper, less demanding alternative to office software suites--software combining word processing, spreadsheets, graphics, etc. (BW-Dec. 5)
--are getting a new look. Novell Inc. has overhauled its WordPerfect Works and renamed it PerfectWorks 2.1 for Windows. Improvements to the under $100 program include better spelling and grammar checkers and beefed-up communications. ClarisWorks 4.0 for Macintosh will ship in June with a price of about $100; a Windows 95 edition is planned for fall. The new ClarisWorks boasts an enhanced word processor. Microsoft has not announced plans for its Works package, but a new version is expected soon after Windows 95 ships.
