Thousands of new Internet users flooding onto the World Wide Web through commercial online services may soon get some help in the daunting task of finding material. In the first deal of its sort, Carnegie Mellon University has licensed its Lycos Catalog of Web resources to Microsoft Corp. for use on the forthcoming Microsoft Network. Current Web users can check out the catalog at, though heavy demand sometimes overwhelms the system's ability to handle search requests.
