Notch a win for Denny's boss Jerome Richardson. Richardson, a 1959 Baltimore Colts receiver, led the expafsion group that won the nod from the National Football League's 28 owners on Oct. 26 to field a team in Charlotte (N.C.). The victory caps a tumultuous year in which Richardson labored to defuse charges of racial discrimination at some of his restaurants while he raised funds for a $160 million stadium.

That leaves Baltimore and long shots Memphis and Jacksonville, Fla., still in the running to become the NFL's 30th team.
