McGraw-Hill returned to its roots on July 28, naming Harold W. McGraw III president and chief operating officer. Joseph L. Dionne, who had been president, remains chairman and CEO of the company, whose holdings include BUSINESS WEEK and Standard & Poor's.
McGraw, 44, is a great-grandson of founder James H. McGraw. He joined the company in 1980 and rose to supervise all of its operations in '92. McGraw says he'll focus on alliances and partnerships, and emerging markets such as Chile and Mexico.
