did not tell your reporter that GPA could lose volume discounts of up to 30%, as the story said ("Doubts about GPA's future may be more than blarney," International Business, Nov. 30). I am certain that our customers would be delighted to get discounts of such magnitude on our products. But no one does.
In our interview, I did explain that a combination of down payments and progress payments, while the airplanes are being built, could average approximately 30% of the purchase price, with the remainder due on delivery. Since the actual numbers are negotiated with each customer, we do not relate this percentage to GPA specifically, or to any customer.
