Panasonic, KDDI in Group Picked to Run Japan Energy-Saving Plan

Panasonic Corp. (6752), KDDI Corp. (9433) and two others will lead a project in Japan to study how to save energy and control peak usage by installing energy-management systems at about 14,000 homes.

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry picked a group comprising of 19 companies and the city of Miyama to conduct the pilot project, according to a statement today by the project leaders, which also include SoftBank BB Corp. and NTT East Corp.

The project, intended to collect and manage data on home energy use, will run through March 2016, according to the statement.
