Yingli’s Spanish subsidiary will deliver the panels to Gestamp Renewables Corp.’s solar development unit beginning in October, Baoding, China-based Yingli said today in a statement. Terms weren’t disclosed. The project, Gestamp’s first in Japan, is expected to be connected to the grid in the second quarter of next year.
Solar installations this year in Japan are expected to increase to 11.9 gigawatts, up from 7.1 gigawatts last year, according to Bloomberg New Energy Finance. Yingli said July 23 it was supplying panels for a 32-megawatt solar farm in Okayama.
“Our success in this important emerging market is key to Yingli’s corporate strategy, and we look forward to further supporting the growth of solar PV in Japan,” Chief Executive Officer Miao Liansheng said in the statement. The company’s first-quarter shipments to Japan increased more than 50 percent from the previous quarter.
