The joint venture intends to own and sell the projects it develops in the U.K., Roseville, California-based Solar Power said today in a statement. The company initially intends to build about 55 megawatts of capacity.
The U.K. wants to produce 30 percent of the country’s power from renewable sources by 2020, including as much as 4 gigawatts from solar, according to the statement.
“The U.K. will be one of our key geographic focus markets in the coming years,” Peng Xiaofeng, chairman of Solar Power and founder of LDK, said in the statement.
LDK owns about 71 percent of Solar Power, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.
