NextEra Approved to Develop $300 Million Wind Farm in Ontario

NextEra Energy Inc. (NEE), the second-largest U.S. utility owner, has been approved by the Ontario Ministry of Environment and Climate Change to build a $300 million wind farm near the Lake Huron shoreline.

NextEra’s Canada unit expects to begin construction in the third quarter and complete the 60-turbine, 102-megawatt Goshen Wind Energy Centre by early 2015, Josie Bird, a company spokeswoman, said today in a telephone interview.

The wind farm will provide power to the municipalities of Bluewater and South Huron under Ontario’s feed-in tariff program, she said.

Duke Energy Corp. is the largest U.S. utility owner by market value.
