SunEdison Buys 156 Megawatt Solar Project in Colorado

SunEdison Inc. (SUNE), the best-performing solar company this year, bought the 156 megawatt Comanche Solar project in Colorado from Community Energy that will supply Xcel Energy Inc. (XEL) customers in the state.

SunEdison will begin construction next year and complete the plant in early 2016, the St. Peters, Missouri-based company said today in a statement. Terms weren’t disclosed.

The output will be sold to Xcel’s Colorado utility under a 25-year contract. TerraForm Power Inc. (TERP), a solar power plant owner developed by SunEdison that sold shares last week in an initial offering, has an option to buy the plant when complete.

The 900-acre power plant will include more than 400,000 high efficiency mono-crystalline PV modules.

SunEdison has climbed 66 percent this year, the most in the 17-member Bloomberg Intelligence Global Large Solar Energy Index.
