African Development Bank Grants Mauritius Funds for Dam Projects

The African Development Bank granted Mauritius 14 million rupees ($460,000) to support water-management projects in the Indian Ocean island nation.

The funds will help hire experts for the “design and construction of the Rivière des Anguilles Dam and La Ferme Dam,” according to a statement e-mailed today by the Mauritian prime minister’s office in the capital, Port Louis. The government is enhancing capacity to capture and store rainwater to mitigate scarcity during seasonal droughts, it said.

Mauritius has a population of about 1.3 million people, according to Statistics Mauritius.
