Brett and Cassie Berns, son and daughter of songwriter Bert Berns, describe how they produced a musical to tell “the greatest rock ‘n’ roll story never told”. Bert Burns died from a heart attack at the age of 38. By then he had written a huge body of hits including “I Want Candy” and “Hang On Sloopy”; he had produced hits for Ben E. King and Van Morrison; and had also had adventures including a spell gun-running in Cuba for Fidel Castro. The Berns offspring describe how they went about producing the jukebox bio-musical, “Piece Of My Heart: The Bert Berns Story”, which will open Monday at the Signature Theater on New York City’s 42nd Street. Cassie and Brett speak with Bloomberg’s Vonnie Quinn on Bloomberg Radio’s "The Hays Advantage”.
