IMG Tennis Trying to Sign Wimbledon Finalist Bouchard

IMG Tennis, which represents the world’s best-paid female athlete Maria Sharapova, said it’s trying to sign Wimbledon finalist Eugenie Bouchard, whose management contract expires this year.

Bouchard plays Czech Petra Kvitova for the Wimbledon title tomorrow. The 20-year-old Canadian is one of the rising stars on the women’s WTA tour after semifinal spots in the Australian and French Opens.

“We would love to represent Eugenie Bouchard,” Fernando Soler, head of IMG Tennis, said in an interview at Wimbledon. “We’ve stressed our interest to sign her. We’ve been in touch with her.”

Bouchard, the first Canadian to reach a major singles final, “has all the elements to succeed,” he added. “She is talented, she is beautiful, she has a very nice personality, she has a strong domestic market, she has international appeal.”

Bouchard’s contract with Lagardere Unlimited, her French management company, expires this year, her agent Sam Duvall said today at Wimbledon. He said they are in talks to renew.

Bouchard currently has five sponsors: Nike Inc. (NKE); racket manufacturer Babolat; poultry retailer Pinty’s; Canada’s largest wireless carrier Rogers Communications Inc.; and health supplement maker Usana Health Sciences.
