Rangers Sign Defenseman Dan Boyle as NHL Free Agency Starts

The New York Rangers signed All-Star defenseman Dan Boyle on the first day of National Hockey League free agency.

Boyle, 37, had 12 goals and 24 assists last season with the San Jose Sharks, leading the team in average ice time. The league’s free agency began today at 12 p.m. Eastern time.

Rated No. 7 on TSN’s list of top 40 unrestricted free agents, Boyle has played 15 NHL seasons with the Florida Panthers, Tampa Bay Lightning and Sharks.

The Rangers last season advanced to the Stanley Cup finals for the first time since 1994, losing to the Los Angeles Kings in five games. The team’s free agents include Chris Kreider, Mats Zuccarello and Derick Brassard.
