President Vladimir Putin will meet OAO Gazprom (GAZP) Chief Executive Officer Alexey Miller and Energy Minister Alexander Novak before the resumption of talks on a gas-supply deal with Ukraine, officials said.
The meeting will happen later today in Moscow before negotiations between Russia, Ukraine and the European Union reconvene in Brussels late tonight or tomorrow, two officials said, asking not to be named because the meeting is private.
The discussions ended early this morning without a deal as Gazprom insisted on receiving a debt payment before a deadline today, and Ukraine balked at Russia’s price demands. The EU, reliant on Russian gas piped through Ukraine for about 15 percent of its gas supplies, is trying to broker a deal to avert a cutoff.
Gazprom’s press office declined to comment.
