The New York Knicks scheduled a news conference for tomorrow to make a “major announcement” amid reports that Derek Fisher had been hired as their new coach.
The Knicks’ e-mailed announcement did not say what the news conference was about. Yahoo Sports reported Fisher was finalizing a five-year, $25 million deal with the Knicks, without saying where it got the information.
Fisher, 39, will end an 18-year National Basketball Association playing career for five teams. Thirteen of those seasons were spent with the Los Angeles Lakers, including nine when Knicks President Phil Jackson was coach there. The Lakers won five NBA titles during those nine seasons.
