The Kings won the series opener 3-2 in overtime three nights ago in Los Angeles. Game 3 in the best-of-seven series is set for June 9 at New York’s Madison Square Garden.
Ryan McDonagh and Mats Zuccarello scored goals in the opening period to give the Rangers an early two-goal lead for the second straight game.
McDonagh opened the scoring midway through the period on a slapshot from the point, and Zuccarello made it 2-0 with 74 seconds left in the first period when he jammed a rebound past Los Angeles goalie Jonathan Quick.
The Kings got their first goal less than two minutes into the second period when Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist slipped while trying to get back to his net after stopping a shot and Jarret Stoll knocked a loose puck into the goal.
New York regained its two-goal lead midway through the period on a power play when Martin St. Louis finished off a two-on-one rush with Derek Stepan by scoring his seventh goal of the 2014 playoffs.
Los Angeles answered with its own power-play goal on a shot from the point by Willie Mitchell, but New York’s Derick Brassard scored 11 seconds later to make it 4-2.
