Scotland Approves SSE Wind Farm to Power 114,000 Homes

The Scottish government today approved SSE Plc’s (SSE) plans to build a wind farm in the region’s north that will generate enough power for 114,000 homes.

The 67-turbine wind farm near Fort Augustus will have a maximum capacity of 242 megawatts, the government said today in a statement on its website. It’s expected to generate about 30 million pounds ($50 million) of benefits to the Highland area.

Scotland is aiming for 100 percent of its electricity to come from clean sources by 2020. It’s already providing more than a third of the U.K.’s renewable electricity generation, Energy Minister Fergus Ewing said in the statement.
