SunPower Completes 33 Megawatts of Solar Farms in South Africa

SunPower Corp. (SPWR), the second-largest U.S. solar manufacturer, said it connected two solar farms totaling 33 megawatts to the grid in South Africa.

The 22-megawatt Herbert project and 11-megawatt Greefspan project are both owned by AE-AMD Renewable Energy, a joint venture of AMDA Energia and Alt-E Technologies, San Jose, California-based SunPower said today in a statement.

Eskom Holdings SOC Ltd., the state-backed electricity supplier, agreed to buy the power from the two solar farms, which are near Douglas, South Africa, in the Northern Cape Province, according to the statement.

First Solar Inc. is the largest U.S. solar manufacturer.
