Xcel to Sell Xcell Power From 50-Megawatt Colorado Plant

SunPower Corp. (SPWR), the second-largest U.S. solar manufacturer, agreed to sell power from a 50-megawatt power plant in Colorado to Xcel Energy Inc. (XEL)

SunPower will begin construction on the project in Colorado’s San Luis Valley in 2015 and complete it in 2016, the San Jose, California-based company said today in a statement. Terms weren’t disclosed.

The project will be the third SunPower has built for Minneapolis-based Xcel in the valley, after the 19-megawatt Greater Sandhill project and the 30-megawatt San Luis Valley Solar Ranch project that were completed in 2011.

First Solar Inc. is the largest U.S. solar manufacturer.
