Samsung Electronics Co. (005930) Chairman Lee Kun Hee is in a “very” stable condition and is being reviewed for a transfer to a general ward from intensive care, the Samsung Medical Center said.
Lee, 72, was operated on May 11 at the medical center in Seoul following a heart attack. The chairman of Asia’s biggest technology company, who helps generate about a quarter of South Korea’s economic output, has been in an intensive care ward for eight days.
“All physical inspection results show Chairman Lee Kun Hee is very stable and is gradually recovering,” Samsung Medical Center said in an e-mailed statement today. A medical center official who declined to be named would not confirm when contacted by phone whether Lee remains under sedation.
Lee, who was treated for lung cancer in 2000, underwent surgery to boost his oxygen intake after experiencing difficulty breathing the night of May 10.
