One of the founders of SoulCycle, the latest version of gym spinning classes, said she expects to “open another 10” locations before the end of this year.
Elizabeth Cutler, who co-founded New York-based SoulCycle LLC with Julie Rice, said in an interview yesterday with Bloomberg TV’s Pimm Fox that the company has already doubled its locations in the last 12 months -- to 26 now.
Cutler called the 45-minute workouts, which are lit with candlelight and use high-energy music, part of the “boutique fitness” movement. Participants use weights while cycling on the stationary bicycles.
SoulCycle says on its website that it opened its first studio in New York in 2006 and that it plans to have 50 to 60 locations worldwide by 2015.
