Trina Solar Ltd. (TSL), the second-largest panel maker, sold its first utility-scale photovoltaic project in China.
Huadian Fuxin Energy Corp. (816) acquired a 50-megawatt power plant in Wuwei, Gansu province, Trina said today in a statement. Terms weren’t disclosed.
The sale “showcases our ability to develop large-scale downstream projects,” Trina Chief Executive Officer Gao Jifan said in the statement. The Changzhou, China-based company said March 4 that demand for solar power is expected to surge this year in Asia and the Middle East.
Trina was the largest panel maker by 2012 shipments after Yingli Green Energy Holding Co., and excluding Suntech Power Holdings Co., whose main unit filed for bankruptcy protection in China in March 2013.
