Gevo Inc. (GEVO), the U.S. biofuel producer backed by French oil company Total SA, agreed to exclusively license in Argentina its proprietary technology for producing renewable isobutanol to Porta Hnos SA.
Porta Hnos, a closely held producer of liquor and vinegar, designed half the ethanol plants in Argentina and is seeking to move into isobutanol production, Englewood, Colorado-based Gevo said today in a statement.
“We would like to expand our footprint to other high-value renewable alcohols such as isobutanol,” Fernando Porta, vice president of Porta, said in the statement.
Gevo uses corn and plant waste to make isobutanol, a compound that may be blended with gasoline or converted into hydrocarbon fuels and chemicals.
