Devin Hester Says He Won’t Return to Chicago Bears Next Season

Devin Hester, who has returned more punts for touchdowns than any player in National Football League history, said he won’t return to the Chicago Bears for a ninth season.

“I’ve always said I wanted to retire a Chicago Bear but sometimes things don’t work out the way we would like,” Hester, 31, wrote on his Facebook page.

Hester in October ended a two-year scoring drought with a record-extending 13th punt return for a touchdown against the Washington Redskins. The 81-yard run tied him with Deion Sanders for an NFL record 19th return for a touchdown. Hester has also returned five kickoffs and one missed field goal for touchdowns.

As a rookie in the Super Bowl after the 2006 season, Hester returned the opening kickoff 92 yards for a touchdown. The Indianapolis Colts won the game 29-17.
