Oscars TV Audience Rose 7% From 2013 to Nine-Year High, ABC Says

ABC’s telecast of the 86th Academy Awards last night attracted about 7 percent more viewers than last year’s show, according to preliminary ratings data that put the audience at its highest since 2005.

The program, capped by the best picture win for “12 Years a Slave,” was seen in almost 28 percent of the TV homes in the 56 largest U.S. TV markets, Walt Disney Co.’s ABC said today in an e-mailed statement.

The network plans to release updated national ratings later today, according to the statement.
