Ghana Water Co. shut down the treatment plant that supplies about half of Accra, the capital, with drinking water today to do maintenance and add extra processing capacity.
The facility will reopen on March 2, Michael Agyeman, a spokesman for the state-owned utility, said by phone. The Kpong plant has a capacity to process 40 million gallons a day. Weija, located west of Accra, has a capacity of about 60 million gallons a day.
