Siemens to Provide 64 Turbines to Allete Wind Project

Siemens AG (SIE), Europe’s largest engineering company, agreed to supply and install 64 turbines to Allete Inc. (ALE)’s Minnesota Power unit for a wind farm in North Dakota.

The 3-megawatt turbines are expected to be in operation by year-end, Munich-based Siemens said today in a statement.

The project is the fourth phase of the Bison Wind Energy Center in Oliver and Morton counties, boosting its capacity to almost 500 megawatts, and Siemens also supplied turbines for the earlier stages.

Minnesota Power delivers electricity from the project to Minnesota over a 465-mile (748-kilometer) transmission line it purchased in 2009.
