Macquarie Hires Ex-TD Analyst Bilodeau to Cover Canadian Lenders

Macquarie Group Ltd. (MQG) hired Jason Bilodeau, an analyst previously at Toronto-Dominion Bank, to cover Canadian lenders.

Bilodeau, 39, joins Australia’s largest investment bank as a managing director of equity research this week, according to Greg MacDonald, who runs the unit in Toronto. Bilodeau had covered the nation’s largest lenders at Toronto-Dominion Bank’s TD Securities unit. He replaces Sumit Malhotra, who left last year to cover financial companies for Bank of Nova Scotia’s investment-banking unit.

“Jason is a respected and tenured analyst in a sector that is important to Macquarie’s clients,” MacDonald wrote in an e-mailed statement.

Bilodeau’s move stems from a broader shuffle of financial analysts among firms last year. He left TD Securities in August as the lender hired Mario Mendonca, who had worked at Canaccord Genuity Group Inc. Mendonca was replaced at his previous employer by Gabriel Dechaine, who came from Credit Suisse Group AG.

Doug Young, Bilodeau’s former associate at TD Securities, joined Desjardins Securities Inc. in November as veteran analyst Michael Goldberg took on a new role in the firm. The Globe and Mail reported Bilodeau’s hire Feb. 14.
