Lillard Includes Slam Dunk in Unprecedented All-Star Schedule

Damian Lillard of the Portland Trail Blazers will become the first player to take part in three contests on the evening before the National Basketball Association All-Star Game.

Lillard, the NBA reigning Rookie of the Year, will take part in the rising stars event on Feb. 14 in New Orleans, the NBA said in a news release last night.

The following evening, Lillard will defend his skills challenge title before taking part in the three-point contest, the NBA said.

He’ll then go against John Wall of the Washington Wizards and Paul George of the Indiana Pacers in the slam dunk contest. It will be the first time three All-Stars take part in the evening’s marquee event since 1988, when Michael Jordan won against a field that included Clyde Drexler and Dominique Wilkins, the NBA said.

Also taking part in the slam dunk contest are defending champion Terrence Ross of the Toronto Raptors, Harrison Barnes of the Golden State Warriors and rookie Ben McLemore of the Sacramento Kings.

The 63rd NBA All-Star Game is scheduled to begin at 8:00 p.m. eastern time Feb. 16 at the New Orleans Arena.
