Lynch scored on a one-yard run less than three minutes into the second quarter at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
The Seahawks took a 2-0 lead when the ball was snapped over the head of Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning on the first play of the game and Knowshon Moreno recovered the fumble in his own end zone for a Seattle safety. Steven Hauschka then kicked field goals of 31 and 33 yards to make it 8-0 to the Seahawks after the first quarter.
Denver failed to win a first down during the first quarter and was held to 11 yards of offense, compared with 148 for Seattle.
