Hogan Joins Arnold & Porter in Houston: Business of Law

Arnold & Porter LLP opened an office in Houston with a litigation team from Hogan Lovells LLP.

Thad Thano Dameris, who has 25 years of legal experience with a focus on energy and transportation litigation, will lead the office.

Christopher Odell also joins as a partner in Houston with a litigation practice focused on the energy and aviation industries. Partner David J. Weiner joins Arnold & Porter in the Washington office. He has experience in class actions and in cases involving constitutional, administrative, contracts and product-liability matters.

“We see significant opportunities to build in Houston based on our existing strengths and our experience in the region,” Tom Milch, Arnold & Porter’s chairman, said in a statement.

Blank Rome Adds 21 Lawyers to Open Office in San Francisco

Blank Rome LLP is opening a San Francisco office Feb. 1 with the addition of lawyers from two firms, Finestone & Richter and Margolis & Tisman LLP.

Some of the 21 attorneys joining the firm, including five partners, will be based in the Los Angeles and New York offices.

“They bring an impressive amount of corporate M&A, corporate litigation, labor and employment, banking, real estate and trusts-and-estates experience to the firm’s practices in these areas, as well as Chinese and Korean language capability, and will be excellent enhancements to our Asia practice,” Alan J. Hoffman, chairman and managing partner, said in a statement.

Joining from Margolis & Tisman are partners Michael B. Margolis, corporate litigation in Los Angeles; Stephen E. Tisman, labor and employment and corporate litigation in New York; and Jason S. Kim, corporate, M&A and securities in Los Angeles.

Joining from Finestone & Richter are partners Jeffrey R. Richter, corporate, M&A and securities in Los Angeles; and William Finestone, tax, benefits and private client matters in Los Angeles.

Sidley, DLA Piper, Weil, Sutherland in Lateral Partner Moves

Former DLA Piper LLP investment management and funds practice head Alessandro Corno joins Jones Day as partner in Milan along with two associates.

Sidley Austin LLP announced that Matthew D. Lerner joined the firm’s Washington office as co-global coordinator of the tax controversy practice. Lerner, who has almost 30 years of experience, was previously at Steptoe & Johnson LLP.

Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP added Albert Cho, previously of Kirkland & Ellis LLP, who will join the global private funds group in the Hong Kong office.

Sutherland Asbill & Brennan LLP added Yasho Lahirito in the financial services practice in New York. Lahirito was previously a partner with Baker Botts LLP.

Samuel L. Felker joined Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell & Berkowitz PC as a shareholder and a member of the product-liability and mass-tort group in Nashville, Tennessee. He previously was at Bass, Berry & Sims Plc, where headed the firm’s product-liability and mass-torts practice group.

Duane Morris LLP announced that Grant Puleo joined the real estate practice group and Dawn Hall Cunneen joined the wealth-planning practice group, both in the San Diego office. Both were at Procopio, Cory, Hargreaves & Savitch LLP.

Charlene M. Kelly, previously at Seyfarth Shaw LLP, joined Quarles & Brady LLP’s Chicago office as a partner in the labor and employment practice group.
