Wabag Snags Libya, Turkey Water-Treatment Plant Orders

VA Tech Wabag Ltd. (VATW), India’s largest water-treatment company, won 31 million euros ($42 million) of orders to build four plants in Libya and another in Turkey.

Wabag’s Vienna-based unit was awarded a contract for the treatment plants for General Electricity Co. of Libya’s power stations in the capital Tripoli, Tobruk and Derna. Wabag has operated in Libya for 20 years, including amid the rule of Muammar Qaddafi and his death in a 2011 uprising.

The Chennai-based company also will be building a drinking water treatment plant in Izmir, Turkey. The 360,000 cubic-meter-a-day facility will be completed next year, it said.

The Libyan plants are expected to be finished by the end of 2015, Wabag said today in a stock exchange statement.
