Qatar to Build 5 Water-Pumping Stations for $880 Million

Qatar plans to build five water-pumping stations for 3.2 billion riyals ($880 million) to more than double the gas-rich nation’s strategic water reserves, Qatar General Electricity and Water Corp. said.

The desert country on the Persian Gulf gets nearly all its water by desalinating seawater. The Qatari works would raise its water reserves 126 percent to 921 million gallons, according to a release from the public utility today at a press conference in the capital, Doha.
