China Harbour Signs $680 Million Deal for Khartoum Airport Work

Sudan Airports Holding Co. signed a $680 million agreement with China Harbour Engineering Co. today to build phase two of the Khartoum New International Airport.

Preparations for phase one have already begun with an engineering, procurement and construction agreement worth $700 million financed by the Export-Import Bank of China, according to Sudanese airport officials at the Bahrain Air Show.

Studies show a need for an aviation hub in the region to serve sub-Saharan Africa, an important link between east and west, according to a presentation by Fatima Abdullatif, engineering consultant at KNIA.
