The Roosevelt Wind Project, about 18 miles (29 kilometers) southwest of Portales, will have as much as 300 megawatts of capacity and is expected to begin operation by December 2015, San Diego-based EDF Renewable Energy said today in a statement. Terms weren’t disclosed.
Xcel Energy Inc. (XEL)’s Southwestern Public Service agreed to buy 250 megawatts of capacity from the project’s first phase under a 20-year contract.
Roosevelt will be the first wind farm in New Mexico built and owned by EDF, which yesterday said it bought a 194-megawatt wind farm in Texas from Cielo Wind Power LP.
