EDF Acquires 194-Megawatt Wind-Power Project in Texas From Cielo

A U.S. unit of French utility Electricite de France SA bought a 194-megawatt wind farm in Texas from Cielo Wind Power LP.

The Spinning Spur III project in Oldham County, about 50 miles (80 kilometers) west of Amarillo, will go into operation by the end of next year, San Diego-based EDF Renewable Energy said today in a statement. Terms weren’t disclosed.

Georgetown Utility Systems and Garland Power & Light agreed to buy the electricity under long-term contracts.

EDF bought the remaining 49 percent that it didn’t already own of Cielo’s 161-megawatt Spinning Spur II project in April. The company will have more than 1 gigawatt of installed wind-power capacity in Texas by the end of 2015, according to the statement.
