Boeing Co. (BA) said it has begun telling states competing for a share of its 777X-jet production whether they are still in the running to land the new aircraft, the company’s first model for the 2020s.
Finalists from among the 22 states and 54 sites vying for the project aren’t being identified, Doug Alder, a Boeing spokesman, said in an e-mail. Boeing teams continue to evaluate sites that remain under consideration, and the Chicago-based planemaker expects to make a final decision early next year.
Assembling the twin-aisle jet and its composite wings may generate thousands of jobs, a lure that spurred states including Washington, the home of Boeing’s commercial operations, to dangle billions of dollars in incentives to win the factory.
North Carolina was notified today that it’s no longer in contention, the News & Record newspaper in Greensboro reported, citing the Piedmont Triad Airport Authority.
