Denver Broncos wide receiver Wes Welker will miss tonight’s home game against the San Diego Chargers as he recovers from his second concussion in four weeks.
Broncos coach John Fox ruled Welker out yesterday, team spokesman Patrick Smyth said in an e-mail.
Welker, who has 73 receptions for 778 yards and 10 touchdowns this season, sustained the concussion in a 51-28 victory against the Tennessee Titans on Dec. 8. The 10-year veteran also suffered a concussion on Nov. 17 against the Kansas City Chiefs. Welker, 32, returned the following weekend.
National Football League protocol says any player who suffers a concussion is not permitted to practice until the following Friday at the earliest, according to ESPN.
Led by quarterback Peyton Manning, the Broncos have the best record in the American Football Conference at 11-2.
