Bernstein’s Griffith Quits as Global Head of Trading

Jason Griffith, global head of trading at Sanford C. Bernstein & Co., resigned from the New York-based brokerage after less than a year on the job.

Griffith stepped down to pursue other opportunities, said Jonathan Freedman, a Bernstein spokesman, declining to elaborate. Griffith didn’t respond to phone and e-mail messages seeking comment today.

He joined Bernstein in January, reporting to Chief Executive Officer Robert van Brugge, according to a statement at the time. Griffith was previously global head of equities at Jefferies Group Inc.

Jefferies hired Griffith in 2006 and promoted him a year later to help run the equities division with Ross Stevens. The firm later gave Griffith sole oversight of the unit. He previously led U.S. structured-product sales at Societe Generale SA after the Paris-based lender acquired Bank of America Corp.’s structured-investments business.

The Wall Street Journal reported Griffith’s departure earlier today.
