A suicide car bomb attack has been carried out near Kabul’s Loya Jirga, a grand national assembly where nearly 3,000 Afghan leaders and elders will discuss the Afghan-U.S. security pact next week, local police said.

The bomber and his vehicle came under fire by police after he was recognized, according to a statement from the interior ministry. It said there may be casualties, without giving further details.
