Tampa Bay outfielder Wil Myers was selected today as the American League’s top rookie, becoming the third Rays player in the last six seasons to win the award.
Myers finished ahead of Rays pitcher Chris Archer and Detroit Tigers shortstop Jose Iglesias in voting conducted by the Baseball Writers’ Association of America.
In the National League, the three finalists for Rookie of the Year are Miami Marlins pitcher Jose Fernandez, Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig and St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Shelby Miller.
The rest of Major League Baseball’s top awards -- including Most Valuable Player and Manager of the Year -- will be announced later this week.
