Armajaro Signs Deal to Supply Vietnam Coffee to Master Blenders

Armajaro Trading Ltd., a supplier of soft commodities, signed an agreement to provide Vietnamese coffee to DE Master Blenders 1753 NV (DE), maker of Douwe Egberts.

The trader will “directly source” Master Blenders’ needs for coffee from the world’s biggest producer of robusta beans, Armajaro said in an e-mailed statement today. The deal will create a “much closer traceable relationship” between the roaster and 10,000 producers, according to the statement.

“Our agreement is a pioneering change in the relationship between roasters and suppliers, enabling us to work together to improve the livelihoods of coffee farmers,” said Richard Gower, chief executive officer at Armajaro.

Robusta beans are grown mainly in Asia and parts of Africa and are used to make instant coffee and espresso. Master Blenders is also the maker of Senseo and sells its coffee in more than 45 countries.
