Interior Chief Says Drought May Cause Record Wildfires in U.S.

U.S. Interior Secretary Sally Jewell said that there may be a record season for wildfires this year as severe drought conditions persist in the West.

Jewell, in her first testimony to the House Natural Resources committee, said a decade of drought has led to an accumulation of “hazardous fuels in our forests and rangelands.”
