EU’s Almunia Says He Told Google More Antitrust Remedies Needed

European Union Competition Commissioner Joaquin Almunia said he wrote to Google Inc. (GOOG) chief Eric Schmidt requesting further remedies to settle an EU antitrust case.

Speaking at a press conference in Brussels today, Almunia said his request followed last month’s conclusion of a market test of the company’s earlier settlement offer.

“I concluded that the proposals that Google sent to us months ago are not enough to overcome our concerns and in this sense I wrote a letter to the president of Google, to Mr Schmidt, asking Google to present better proposals, or improved propsals,” Almunia said.
