Portugal’s Deficit Widened to 7.1% in 12 Months Through March

Portugal’s budget deficit widened to 7.1 percent of gross domestic product in the 12 months through March, the statistics institute said.

That compares with a deficit of 6.4 percent in the calendar year of 2012, the Lisbon-based National Statistics Institute said today in an e-mailed statement. The budget deficit was 10.6 percent in the three months through March, wider than a deficit of 7.9 percent in the first quarter of 2012.
