Itron Meter Contracts to Help Cut India Water Losses

Itron Inc. (ITRI), a maker of smart meters that reduce waste and energy, has been awarded a contract by India’s biggest engineering company to help curb water losses and improve infrastructure in the New Delhi area.

Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (LT) selected Itron to provide 120,000 advanced meters to Delhi Jal Board as part of a project to measure usage and more effectively deliver water to Delhi residents, the Liberty Lake, Washington-based company said in a statement.

Itron also won a contract from SPML Infra Ltd. (SPML) to provide 90,000 meters to DJB in the Malviya Nagar, Vasant Vihar and Mehrauli areas of Delhi. A group led by Suez Environnement and SPML aim in a pilot program to improve water distribution, ensure service throughout the day and reduce water losses. No contract terms were disclosed.
