Sberbank (SBER) CIB, the investment-banking unit of Russia’s largest lender, boosted its fixed-income, currencies and commodities team with the hiring of Francois Mantion from JPMorgan Chase & Co. (JPM) and Raymond Bird from Royal Bank of Scotland Group Plc. (RBS)
Mantion joins as head of commodity trading from JPMorgan, where he most recently led global energy market risk, according to an e-mailed statement today from the Moscow-based lender. Bird was named head of strategic equity financing after spending nine years at RBS in trading and risk management, the bank said.
Sberbank has been adding bankers to compete with VTB Capital 18 months after acquiring Troika Dialog, Russia’s oldest brokerage. VTB Capital was Russia’s largest organizer of combined debt and equity sales, data compiled by Bloomberg show.
It hired Albert Sagiryan last month from Goldman Sachs Group Inc. as head of structured products, fixed-income and derivative-products sales.
